Welcome to my music studio!
I offer individual piano lessons, violin lessons and music theory lessons – and am open to suggestions i.e. mother/father and child!
All ages and levels are welcome!
Experienced with students who have special educational needs.
The music studio is run from my home in central Prestwick.
Online lessons are also available.
My background is I studied piano with Margaret Murray McLeod and violin with Elizabeth Napier at Napier Polytechnic in Edinburgh (now Napier University) and then piano with Jack Keaney and violin with Jurgen Hess and Miles Baster at RSAMD (now the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland) in Glasgow, (1980 – 1984). I spent several years teaching in various schools before setting up my own music studio from the family home.
During this time I established a studio of 50 – 60 pupils with a mix of piano tuition and violin tuition, and presented regular student recitals, a series of music summer schools, and masterclasses with visiting examiners.
As a child I lived in Prestwick, where my dad worked at the airport and my sister and I attended school, went to Miss Mitchell’s ballet and tap – and piano with a lady named Miss Lees! I have now renewed my love for the area and have set up home (and brought my beautiful Yamaha C5 grand piano!) a stone’s throw from Main Street, where I now offer the same opportunities for pupils.
My well-behaved collie (adored by previous pupils) often attends the lessons, although she is just as happy to listen from another room when required!
My goal as a music teacher is to instil a lifetime love of music and allow freedom for pupils to be creative. I am constantly seeking new ideas and enjoy attending seminars and CPD teaching days which provide up to date and fresh material to bring to lessons.
